How Your Halloween Costume Helps You Be More Successful

Happy Halloween! I dressed up as a Magical Muse Goddess, although someone commented that I could also be the Snapchat flower crown filter. Ha!

Who or what did you dress up as, and why?

What I LOVE about Halloween is that it’s just an excuse to dress up! If you know me by now you know that fun and playfulness are muy importante in my world. It’s a time to try things out, get creative, tap into another persona and explore how we can adorn ourselves in a beautiful way. Exploring beauty is an exciting part of a woman’s life. We were bred to cultivate beauty of all sorts and I believe our greatest purpose as women is to be fully expressed.

Halloween allows us to playfully express ourselves through another identity. Consider it “practice” for your own expression because there’s a reason you chose that costume. There is something about that character that you like, something you want to tap into a little more.

Since I am always on the lookout for what helps us stay successful and be more powerful, I noticed something that I thought would be a valuable perspective for you.

Here’s how your Halloween costume can help you become more successful:

Makes you smarter

When all rules are out, the sky’s the limit when it comes to creativity. Some costumes require a lot of details and planning, inviting our most resourceful self to come forward. When we are in a creative space, full of excitement and inspiration, our brain works at its optimal level. It’s kinda like problem solving… putting all the pieces together to create an outcome. Scouring the internet or stores for the perfect attributes to our costume or coming up with unique pairings that makes up something new are all creative ways that heighten our ability to problem solve and inevitably, be successful.

Connects you to others

If you are dressing up, chances are you will be around people. I’m a big cheerleader for connection (with it being my theme for the year and all) because we have WAY more power, impact, pleasure, happiness, confidence, contribution and growth when we are connected to others. During Halloween events, we get to experience camaraderie and bond over all the interesting costumes ideas. We inspire each other, laugh together and enjoy a different side of one another that isn’t normally present. This allows us feel supported, accepted and inspired which helps us feel safe enough to innovate and authentically create success.

Strengthens your confidence + skill set

This is why I wrote this blog. When we dress up, we tap into a new identity and basically become that character. We use the mindset they would have to do, say + think differently in order create an experience that is the costume. Do you see how amazing that is? We can literally become another persona or identity if we wanted to. We can “borrow” their values, quirks, ideas, confidence, mannerisms and power.

This is exactly how archetypal coaching works. Archetypes are simply personas that are within all of us which we can use in any moment to create what we want or need. Common archetypes are the Lover, the Warrior or the Wizard. We don’t have to have been this person before to know what makes them powerful. We can obviously see the traits that make them so, and cultivate those traits in ourselves when we need it, to balance out a situation or simply to have a bigger impact on our life or someone else’s.

Maybe we have to go through a tough situation with a friend who is dealing with a loss of a family member, so we can use the Lover’s soft and compassionate energy to support them best. Maybe we need to tackle a very big dilemma that requires way more productivity than we are used to, so we can tap into the Warrior’s energy to get it done. Or maybe we are having trouble problem solving in some way and need the energy of the Wizard to help us stay curious and creative. Do you get why Archetypes are so powerful now? Think of your costume as an archetype. No matter how small, silly or creative your costume is, there is power in it’s identity. Find it’s power and see how you can “borrow” or use its power in real life for your own challenges.

So, that’s why I love Halloween. It helps us test the waters on our expression and allows us to understand the power of identities.

Speaking of Identity, have you seen the free virtual women’s circle I posted on Facebook recently? It was a prequel to my upcoming Bay Area in person women’s circle and workshop on 11/11 called Living From The Heart. It’s all about releasing the outdated identity that we might be holding on to and truly claiming that identity that will serve our success moving forward. It’s going to be SO much fun and transformative. My co-leader Dawn Bennett, who is a Homeopath and Bodywork, and I are locking in all the details to make this a phenomenally magical day. 10 Things You May Not Know About Me

My two biggest missions and themes for this 2016 are connection and community. I am still getting to know my new city, I'm building my coaching business and network and I'm expanding my reach or impact on the planet.

YOU are part of my mission and I desire to connect with YOU, personally. You are the reason I show up for this kind of work. So, in hopes to learn more about you, I wanted to share some things about me that you might find interesting. Some are a little vulnerable, but that's also what I'm here to do and that's the place that connects us. I am such an open book but don't always get the chance to get personal with my tribe or clients, and I believe that is really a key part to connecting and being in relationship with one another. Commonalities bond us and/or spark conversation- what really connects us as humans.

Enjoy these tid bits today and please comment below to share some things about yourself!

I’m a Professional Organizer and Feng Shui Consultant

You might only know me as either a coach or an organizer or a Feng Shui consultant, but in fact I'm all of them. Since I'm still in transition and working in both fields, I'm still discovering how to merge the two and how I want my brand to incorporate both. (related fact: I was a messy and cluttered child).

I adore animals

Animals are spectacular. I learn so much from them and they are cutest things in the world to me. I couldn’t imagine a life without them, dogs in particular. You know those women who see babies and squeal because of how cute they are? That is me when I see a dog. Doesn’t matter if I’m in the car, walking on the street or watching tv, I will no doubt gasp with joy and publicly acknowledge the dog, and pet it if I can. (related fact: I have two pugs who are brothers named Milo & Otis. They have their own Instagram)

I love electronic music

When the rumblings of rhythm in this way started in the 80s, I was digging it (even as a little one, born in ’82). When dance music hit the scene for real in the 90’s, it was ALL I listened to. I even purchased Christian electronic music in high school. In the late 90’s/early 2000’s I was involved in the Southern California rave scene which not only helped me find my purpose in life but also brought me the greatest joy I had ever known (yes, even beyond the drugs). Electronic music touches my soul, I get the chills every single time I listen to a well produced song and I’m what they call a House Head. (related fact: I used to work in the music industry at a major record label, BMG which eventually became Sony.)

I’m a dancer

But haven’t really practiced in years. This is definitely on my radar to bring back into my life. When I was younger, I went to said music events and would be in the middle of the dance circle, battling other dancers with all eyes on me.  A few times I was filmed. I love it so much. I’m always the first one on the dance floor (in fact I one an award for that at camp, lol). I also am obsessed with swing dancing!

I moved around a lot my whole life

Most people consider this to be a bad thing, but I feel so blessed to have moved many times as both a child and adult. I believe this kind of life shaped my destiny and life purpose immensely. I greatly enjoy change and travel (as a Saggitarus cusp-er) and it taught me to not attach myself to people/places/things. It was always a way to start over fresh and sometimes even with a new identity and name! Now, as I’m in my 30’s I want to lay down roots finally, but I look back on all the places I lived for 30 years with gratitude.

I’m pretty silly

People who know me know that I am a playful gal who loves to laugh. I enjoy spontaneity just as much as I love planning. I used to create new words with my friends, I like making loud random sounds to my puppies or husband and the smallest things make laugh out loud. I’m a good ego booster for people, that’s for sure. ;) Fun is a very motivating factor for me.

I’ve always been extremely spiritually active

Growing up Christian was such a gift as it taught me tools on how to get closer to God and be in a community fellowship. I also think that upbringing was helpful in me feeling safe to believe in something greater, even if everyone else did not. I’ve moved beyond this religion today, from years of searching for more, and now, to me, spirituality is comprised of so many “normal” functions from sleep to self-love to morning routines. I believe our bodies are our compass, that sisterhood heals everything and magic is real- described as the complete joy from us mixed with the divine and alchemized into reality. All of those things are spiritual. Any act of love to oneself or another is spiritual. My spirituality is everything to me and I try to infuse it into everything I am.

I’m an empath and intuitive

Speaking of spirituality, I recently in the last several years realized that what I feel is a thing! I can sense others energies or take on their burdens/emotions physically. I can deeply relate to others immediately, which is why they have always come to me for help with their problems. I am extremely sensitive to the energy of others, especially in a crowded space, which is sometimes overwhelming. I am somewhat psychic as I receive visions and knowings of what is to happen in the future often. I can tap into people’s higher selves and speak with them from mine. These are treasures I am still honing in on and integrating into my work and life. I do believe everyone has these senses but at different levels.

I love sitting cross legged

If there's a chance to sit, I always want to sit cross legged: in the car as a passenger on long road trips, right now as I sit in my office chair (I had to buy a new chair to accommodate this posture), on the couch and especially sitting on the floor in meditation or women’s circles. I have no idea why and I know it's bad for my knees, but it’s so comfy!

If I love you, I’ve probably patted you before

This is another odd one. I like to pat or pet people when they do something cute or I realize how much I love them. Kind of like you would pet a dog a few times, I pat a human on their leg or back a few times when I feel they are being super special. My mom hates it when I do this to her, because she thinks I am making fun of her, but I usually just have no words to describe my love and that’s how I show it. (related hand fact: I’m a compulsive tapper with my fingers. It’s not an anxiety thing, it’s a rhythm thing. I am always making music or singing in my head and creating a beat with my hands all the time. It probably stems from playing piano).

How I found my 2016 theme + how my birthday was a catalyst to happiness

One night over the holidays, I found myself sobbing in my bedroom, alone and distraught. I felt isolated and disconnected, but this time, for once in my life, not because of my intentions to be that. I totally pulled the victim card by wallowing in the fact that I wasn’t where I wanted to be in this new city of mine at the end of 2015. Friends weren’t abundant, even though I do know many people here.  Family wasn’t here with us to celebrate the holidays, even though my husband and I requested romantic time by ourselves. My clients were all busy and away with their own families, even though I was still working. The future of my business was blurry, even though I had clearly laid out plans and commitments. My health was getting the back seat in favor of holiday temptations, even with how much I care about flow in the body. I haven’t met with my personal sister circle of support in months, even though there were chances to do so. I just felt completely alone. I threw a tantrum with myself, proclaiming how angry I was that I was feeling this way during my most favorite month of the year. During my birthday month, at that, it was only a few days away. However, I knew there was no one to blame.

Through the tears, I felt her. My sweet, gentle, higher self, that Wise Woman within me who was caressing my back and holding me as the mess I was. I needed to be heard and felt and honored and acknowledged, and she was there with me as I briefly stepped back into my old patterns. The one difference was that I had complete awareness around it through the whole tantrum. I knew I was being messy, victim-y and headed down the road that wasn’t my destiny. This is how I knew that the last remnants of these were healing in me. This is how I could feel and access that gentle Wise Woman that is ever present. She knows that I needed to release and feel my desires even more to step into that powerful creator energy I wanted to be in. I had to once again feel the pain of possibility that I am unloved or don’t belong, our deepest human needs, in order realize that the greatest love I want is within me. This is what creates my reality from the inside out.

As I wallowed to myself in my bedroom that day, looking around at how blessed I was and simultaneously grateful for my life as I was distressed about it, I asked myself “what the hell do I want then?!”

It was in that moment that I realized what my theme for 2016 was going to be: connection

I wanted to be constantly surrounded by people I love and admire, to be honored and recognized for who I am and to be inspired by the diversity of souls on an everyday basis - just like I had experienced in my mastermind this past year. My goals and ambitions (which are usually high to begin with, I’m a Capricorn you see) were out of alignment with who I was being, which is why they felt so far away. Another realization I had was that I was three or four steps ahead, instead of focusing on the present, the step that can move me closer to all that I wanted to accomplish and experience. This is ironic because I teach my clients this same concept, but we teach what we need to master, right?

I know we are always evolving into our greatness by letting go of what’s simply “good”. I felt like the holiday season was, for me, a gateway into my next level of living as a sovereign woman, business owner and mentor. I know there is always a silver lining and that I am supported beyond measure. I know the powerful keys to magnetizing everything I ever want with ease. Still, I am human. The one difference that I believe sets apart Pro’s from Amateurs is the ability to pull ourself out of challenging situations with grace. This was my chance to actively use the tools that I know to pull myself out and into my greatness.

And so, with one day left to my birthday which was on Christmas eve, I did just that. I reached out for support, I set and clarified intentions, I expressed myself fully to release any old, sticky energy and I rested. I was NOT going to feel like that on my birthday and I went into full release mode. I let go of figuring out why I was feeling like this or over analyzing how I could ‘get my life back on track’ which sounds so extreme and silly saying that thought now. Come to find out a few days later there was cosmic energy that was on point with what I was going through.

Great as that was to hear, I truly see the significance of all of this happening right before I entered into a new birth year, before the birth of a new calendar year and before the birth of my first group program. There are no coincidences and no shortcuts. The only way out is through.

To my surprise, my birthday was a HUGE success! I did absolutely nothing and stayed at home, but I received countless birthday wishes, texts, photos, voicemails and love. I felt amazing, loved, honored, recognized, special and important.

At the end of the day, I had an a-ha moment. I wondered why birthdays are so great and fulfilling, besides the whole presents thing, and especially when one does nothing for the entire day. How can it be that I feel so good and connected just by the communication I was having with my loved ones?

Because I was completely open to receiving.

I went into the day completely relaxed, knowing I had no obligations and my only job was to receive. Ah, yes. The power of the feminine that we so often forget in today’s society. My biggest life lesson, as is for so many women these days. Already, at 33, I’ve done so much inner work around feminine principles and receiving, knowing the magnitude that my magnificence holds, and yet…there is always room for growth and healing.

I share this with you to remind you beautiful souls that it is ALWAYS your job to focus on receiving over anything, and in order to fully receive, you need to be relaxed and open enough to do so. From this place, cheesy as it sounds, you will experience everything you ever wanted. From this place, everything is literally possible. Only from this place will wisdom be shown to you, my darling. Only with this level of living will you be able to have the freedom that you really want. Start now by focusing on how you can get more relaxed and open.

EXERCISE: Look back to your best birthday ever…focus on you, not anyone else or what anyone else did. How relaxed were you? How open were you? How much capacity did you have to receive, from yourself and from others? What was different about YOU that day than the others? What did you do or think differently? Take this reflection into your life right now to start calling in what you want to manifest in the most natural way you can, simply by your being

All of my ambitions, goals, dreams that I thought weren’t my reality on that day in my bedroom, simply were revealed to me when I understood that connection is what I craved the most, and that I had it at my fingertips. Connection was the first step.

Here is what Connection looks like for me this year.

  • consistent connection with my self, caring for my body and mind daily, weekly and monthly by making time for my needs no matter what.
  • consistent connection with my husband and family, honoring their needs more and expressing mine more clearly.
  • consistent connection with my friends, virtual and in person by actively seeking out new activities and communities to get involved with.
  • consistent connection with my tribe, my business, my clients and my communities that I’m creating by showing up more fully and often.
  • being in community with like-minded souls in different capacities of both business and personal all over the country.
  • calling people instead of texting or emailing them.
  • responding to people instead of assuming they know that I heard them.
  • reaching out for help and support more often when I feel low resourced.
  • offering my support and resources more to my clients, family, friends and community.
  • branching out of my comfort zone into new experiences that are scary but exciting.
  • making travel a priority this year so I can see friends and enjoy life more on a consistent basis.
  • connecting to my style again with a ‘fitted and funky’ focus this year.
  • connecting my business and my brand together to create a revolutionary experience both online and off.
  • speaking at and hosting events and workshops often.
  • more to be revealed to me each minute….
