What it takes to get & stay MOTIVATED

Let’s talk about motivation. The majority of people who don’t achieve their goals or dreams say it’s because they can’t get or stay motivated to do so, to take the actions needed or to have the mindset that keeps them going. I have been teaching hundreds of women over the last 6 years how to get organized in their home, life and schedule, but I want to share a personal story about motivation that may have a bigger impact on helping YOU get and stay motivated.

Come on a little journey with me…

In 2008 I got in a near fatal car accident, flipped my car over on the freeway and walked away nearly unscathed. The diagnosis was a spinal spasm, which never really got treated because of insurance drama, even though I wasn’t at fault. Over the years I would dabble in chiropractic, massage, core exercise and stretches to help my back, but as you may or may not know, dabbling is never effective.

I have also not had the best relationship with food or exercise, ever, and when that accident happened, I knew something new and powerful was stirred in me. I awoke to a new leaf on life, however, I still didn’t give my body the attention it was screaming for.

When I joined a national networking group, Polka Dot Powerhouse one year ago, my life changed dramatically again. There were powerful, like-minded women owning businesses and working together and having a ton of fun and success along the way. I was hooked! It was then that I met Dr. Nicole, who I immediately fell in love with. She is a vibrant, kind and amazing soul. She is a chiropractor and it seemed everyone in the group had great success working with her. I had always wanted to try chiropractic again, since nothing was working for my back, especially since the muscle spasms were happening every couple of months and putting me out of work for weeks at a time.

But, my pattern was dabbling, so I chose the story that I couldn’t afford it and I didn't need it. I’ll just keep dabbling in getting a massage when my back flares up and going for a long walk once a week. I was and have been avoiding my health, focusing on helping others before me once again. As a Feng Shui consultant, I create balance and harmony within a space to have healthy energy flow in life and at home. It’s ALL about paying attention instead of avoiding or ignoring. I realized I was totally avoiding my well-being and blocking energy flow in my body which of course translated to my life experience. I realized two months ago that I needed to get serious about ALL parts of me, not just my spiritual, mental and emotional intelligence that were in tact. My physical self needed some major love and attention, and beyond the basic self-care practices that I had been doing. 

If you know me, you know that I am all about synchronicities and signs. I never just do anything for the sake of doing it anymore. I allow myself to be divinely guided and only commit myself to something that feels totally aligned and right. Well, how Dr. Nicole and I came to work together was beautifully synchronistic. Her office had a fun holiday ladies night gathering which hosted a plethora of vendors who gave away free services or discounted products, Dr. Nicole being one of them. She was offering a free spinal scan and exam for $40. SOLD. Right then and there, I knew things were going to change. That session was so illuminating and enlightening for me to fully understand WHY my dabbling to “fix” my back had never worked. The structure had to be addressed. She was able to explain exactly how chiropractic can help (everything I had suspected all along but was scared to admit it). I also appreciated her positive energy and intuitive nature, which was important to me.

I also want to share that I harnessed Feng Shui (intuitively) right after this event. I felt the sudden urge to clean underneath my stove which happens to be in my health area of my home. I wasn’t thinking “oh, this is in my health area, I better clean it.” I just got the urge and took action immediately. 

 
 
 

Well, Dr. Nicole turned out to be the exact investment I needed to take charge of my health. In 5 weeks, my strength, inflammation and range of motion has dramatically increased. I feel lighter, more mobile and physically aligned. Plus, I have been on point with healthy nutrition (naturally, without force or deprivation) and self-care that supplements the internal structural reinforcement that is happening. I actually WANT to eat right, move more and stay aware of body sensations. I’m motivated. And I’m getting results all over the place.

My point is, this was the RIGHT leap for me, the next level of evolution in my self-care that drastically improved all areas of my health. It was scary to jump in, but the water actually felt perfect. I honored my intuition and that’s when everything opened up. When I saw results, I felt motivated to keep going, to keep showing up, to try new things, to naturally be drawn to what will support me and to focus on the well-being, body flow and alignment that I had been searching for. It was NEVER this easy, it was always a huge challenge for me to do this. It’s easy now because of the consistent inspiration and improvement I have been receiving for these last 5 weeks. 

We must first be INSPIRED before we can be motivated and take action.

That means we need to deepen the meaning of WHAT and WHY we are participating in. We need to connect what we want or need to do with our core values and biggest priorities before we can expect to be motivated. IN-spiration comes first. We will stay motivated when we see the results from practicing, which gives us energy and faith to keep going. Every little step forward gives you more motivation, and to take each step, we must trust the inspiration, the signs, the synchronicities that guide us. Also, as you can see, Feng Shui helps too ;)

This is why doing things out of obligation, societal “should’s” or from others people’s goals won’t EVER motivate you. 

If you are reading this, something is being asked for your attention in your life. You are now being called to invest in something bigger than you have been, because that next level of you (when you reach your goal) is going to ask you to take a different and more powerful approach than what you have already been doing. What is it for you??

  • Perhaps it needs to be an investment in your health like me through a self-care modality, a health coach, a gym membership or class. 
  • Perhaps you need an investment in your love life by way of therapy, online relationship courses, relationship coaching, more date nights, etc. 
  • Perhaps what is evident in your life is an investment in your career like school, training, or certification. 

What are you being asked to invest in that will up-level your life? The signs are present, my love. 


This is also how coaching works. Turning your fears into freedom

Is fear running your life?
Are you always coming up with excuses as to why you can't do something or be somebody?
Are you self-sabotaging by playing small so you "just get by" or make "just enough" to stay afloat?
Do you isolate yourself from others when you are feeling down, sad or scared?

Although these scenarios are quite normal, they are not serving your highest potential, that magnificent woman with endless resources, enthusiasm and passion.

Although those scenarios are normal, they won't benefit your future or your quality of life.

And although those scenarios are normal, you can't possibly grow or cultivate happiness or success with beliefs that keep you in s state of fear. 

After leading an all-day intensive women's circle and workshop this past weekend (which was phenomenal, btw), the theme of identity has been extremely present in my life and the lives of my friends, colleagues and clients. I've seen first hand how much fear can control our lives and keep us playing small, in the "safe zone", where complacency exists. 

Identity is your persona, your life title, the characteristics of your being and your intrinsic makeup of will, skill and purpose. 

I know how much you want success, happiness, deep connection, freedom, balance and love, because not only do I see these desires every day with clients, but I want them myself, too. Before we can have these things, we have to actively and consciously create our identity from the inside out, first eliminating the fear holding us back and then claiming who we want to be. 

I'm bringing this up because I have a feeling fear might be really present in your life right now. 

You can tell if you feel stuck, if you feel disconnected, if you feel apathetic, if you feel alone, over-nostalgic, burnt out, overwhelmed, unmotivated and/or unhappy.

Today, I did my own work and journaling around any fears that might be present in my own life. After seeing the bravery of the women who worked through some fear at the workshop, and in honor of the major supermoon that is illuminating all of our fears right now, I sat down and got real. 

Although my life is drastically different than when fear was running my life, I still noticed how it was present and running the show in a few areas. Through the exercise I led myself through, I saw the connection that my fear had with my beliefs, which created my reality. I realized the perspective that I was choosing which wasn't helping feed my empowering beliefs, and saw where I could focus my efforts in a way that would increase my confidence in the beliefs I wanted to have which would give me the results I was looking for. At the end, I felt unstoppable

I took myself through a process that I made up on the spot from fear to freedom. I'm feeling the swirlings of a dream come on as I write this and think about the profound impact of a 30 min journaling session. Perhaps a new program is brewing, but I'll tell you what has shifted, and that is remembering of my life's purpose and mission. 

You see, what we often forget when we are blinded by fear is that it often shows us what our desires are or what our INTENTIONS could be.

Fear shows us our limiting beliefs and where we are giving our power away.

It shows us what perspective we are choosing to dwell in and, if we are willing, it can show us how capable we actually are to move past it. 

This is what I want for YOU, darling. I left my journal feeling empowered for myself and back on track, but more so, I feel called to connect with more women to give them the space to explore like I did in a safe and magically structured space to finally start creating positive results in their life. 

Moving past fear doesn't have to be complicated. Shifting your perspective from fear to love can be gentle, rewarding and empowering. This is what I would like to offer you today, as a special gift with no strings attached.

Are you Inspired?

What does a cluttered closet, a draining schedule and an overwhelmed procrastinator have in common? Lack of inspiration.

Sure, proper support and a productive game-plan are what it really takes to have an organized life and space, but we mustn’t forget the path TO that arena, which is what inspires you to take action! 

With all of noise out there on how to organize this or that, how to make your home more beautiful or what to do in order to have a smooth transition into our new home, it's no wonder anyone gets overwhelmed. How could we pick what and who to listen to? It's a dangerous road, however, because once we're on the overwhelm path, we usually stop in our tracks. No movement means stagnant energy which means too many negative consequences.

It's quite important that we surround ourselves with the motivation and inspiration we need to stay ON track with our needs, goals and desires. 

Are you inspired to live and be the best you can be? If not, what's missing?

For me, I know I need lots of color, creative time chilly weather and nature to stay inspired. It's amazing what some fresh flowers or a quick hike can do for the soul. 

In general, if we aren't inspired, our greatest vision for ourselves and our spaces can't come to fruition. (TWEET THAT)


We get stuck in overwhelm, other people's expectations or a desperate need for connection. We settle. We deal with it. We lower our quality of life or let life pass us by. 

What if it could be different? What if you could be just as inspired to enjoy yourself ALL THE TIME? 

It's possible, my friend. The key here is eliminating things that are taking away from your inspiration first, then actively pursuing activities, resources or people that inspire you so everything you experience can be more meaningful.

Inspiration stems from your values. We get excited for and inspired by what we value most. Is there anything that is misaligned in your life?

Here are some examples that might spark an idea:

  • a consultant that values high-level expertise could eliminate some TV watching and go to a business conference. 
  • a fashion model who values spirituality over superficiality might ditch the party and head to a yoga retreat. 
  •  What about a workaholic business woman that really wants to make a difference in the world and values a bigger mission over her career? Perhaps instead of taking her work home with her, she could volunteer for Habitat of Humanity. 


My point may seem obvious, but it appears to be a growing epidemic.

What in your life are you doing (or not doing) that makes you feel blah?

That is exactly what you should let go of NOW and replace it with something that makes you thrilled with anticipation before you do it. The after effects of this small shift will trickle all the way from your head to your wallet. It will give you more fulfillment and purpose in your life so you can experience more success, fun and freedom!

What do you need to look at, listen to, play, read, work on, feel, believe, pursue, ask for, chant, choose or invest in to amplify the quality of your life? No matter what it is, it's within reach and closer than you think.
